The Gucci and Adidas Collaboration Just Dropped. Here Are Our Picks.
Since taking the helm at Gucci, designer Alessandro Michele has infused a sense of nostalgia into the storied Italian label. The way he takes elements from the past to form collections that feel fresh and new has been lauded by critics, coveted by celebrities, and snapped up by anyone that values great style. Lately, Michele has been inspired by the ’70s, a decade that’s synonymous with the rise of disco, sportswear, and a whole lot of flare. This was also the time when Adidas used its trefoil logo, becoming the emblem of the brand until 1997, when it was replaced by three ascending stripes. And though the sportswear juggernaut still uses the trefoil for its heritage line, many kids nowadays may not be familiar with the motif.
In classic Michele fashion, he made what’s old hot again. At Gucci’s fall 2022 runway presentation, the designer displayed what often characterizes his collections: bold colors, rich textures, and, of course, that touch of nostalgia. It was very ’70s; it was very Michele. But what caught the audience by surprise was the trefoil seen on an assortment of vibrant suits, separates, jackets, headwear, and more. Adidas and Gucci partnered on a collection? Adidas and Gucci partnered on a collection!
It’s certainly not the first time that two huge labels joined forces: Fendi and Versace, New Balance and Junya Watanabe, and Nike and Jacquemus are some recent examples. Nor is it the first time for Gucci: the brand garnered blockbuster attention (and sales) with its team-up with Balenciaga and another with The North Face. But this one with Adidas perhaps has the most synergy. Not only do both labels have a sweet affection for stripes and celebrating ’70s styles, both are also committed to sustainable practices.
Now, the Adidas x Gucci collection is available for purchase in Greenbelt and Shangri-La Plaza—and it’s not just the styles that were presented at the February fashion show. There are bags in all sizes, jewelry, and so much more. And if you need help figuring out what to buy, we rounded up our top 10 picks.
