Let us put aside the lofty goals of getting in shape for a while longer because the extended holiday season isn’t over yet until the arrival of Chinese New Year (on Saturday). That means it is still the moment of pants with elasticized waists, roomy T-shirts that hide a multitude of sins, and soft clothes that don’t hurt.

As well, it is the season for red. The color is auspicious for the Chinese because, according to this very informative article on Medium, it is tied to both power (a Han dynasty emperor was said to be called the son of the red emperor) and protection (it is believed to ward off a mythical beast that eats people during the new year).

So, yeah, wear red to assert your authority and not be eaten by a monster. This season, H&M releases over 100 pieces for men, women, and kids for the celebration. Most are drenched in a rich cherry hue and also emblazoned with the original mice—Mickey and Minnie—to coincide with the Year of the Rat.
