Here's an easy way to look like David Beckham
Have you heard about the young man, who, in his idolization of David Beckham, endeavored to remake himself in the football god's image by going under the knife and fighting with a barber? We don't have to tell you that he lost the fight (against both knife and barber). He didn’t even come close to looking like the shadow of the professional handsome person and budding comedian.
So don't do that.
Do this instead: To emulate Beckham, wear his clothes or, more precisely, the style hero's selections for his Modern Essentials line with H&M.
Everything looks like the reflection of man, who has already found the best version of himself. And because the clothes are essentials, they are seasonless.
In what could be considered the legacy phase of his career, Beckham, now 41, has entered a sort of calm. Gone are the days of casually wearing a sarong during the day, or sporting a bandanna on his head, or purposely leaving his shirt open. Or sleevelessness. Here now, in his peak incarnation, is the sureness of a uniform, a wardrobe of suits, coats, sweaters, and jeans, all in an unassailable palette of black, gray, and navy.
It is an exercise in restraint for the former fashion chameleon, an ascent into the realm of the simple, practical, and wise.
All this is reflected in the third edition of Essentials, a carefully edited 20-plus piece collection, whose very spareness, in both color and decoration, make its pieces easy to wear with what you have now or, better yet, in several combinations of each other. There is plenty of outerwear for cool weather, including the season's requisite nylon bomber jacket, in the set's only obvious color, a wine red, and a flight jacket with a teddy collar. Of course, there is a suit coat, of recycled wool-blend, that can be paired with trousers that feature a comfortable and contemporary elasticized waistband.
Everything looks like the reflection of man, who has already found the best version of himself. And because the clothes are essentials, they are seasonless. The jackets, shirts, and pants can be worn into the next year. There is continuity here—which may be a different territory for the retail giant that trades in trends, but something that you and many other men will nonetheless be happy to explore.
The Modern Essentials Collection is now available in H&M.
