The Beckhams Just Pulled Off A Black Tie Masterclass. Here's How
The Beckhams are fashion's first family. It's undeniable. Look to the permaspots on the front row. Look to the fact that Mother Victoria created a bona fide label from what was actually quite a brief pop career. And now, look to the manner in which dad and lad made black tie, arguably the most rigid code in the book, their own.
At the London premiere of Our Planet, both David and Brooklyn read the invite, respected the dress code, and still managed to carve a signature without raising the brows of a fairly traditional crowd. After all, the Beckhams shared a guest list with Prince William, Prince Charles, and Sir David Attenborough. This wasn't the time for a pastel harnessed Louis Vuitton tux.
So, how exactly did they achieve such a feat? HRH David Beckham grabbed texture by the lapels, pulling velvet into a foolproof dinner jacket for added depth. It's an easy win.
Meanwhile, young Brooklyn groomed his way out of the stuffy black tie box. With the tussled signature mane of most celebrity spawn, the 20-year-old opted for a messy slickback, a stark contrast to the prim and proper safety-first lids of most guests. While the rules for the stuff on your back are strict, there's more leeway with the stuff up north (within reason: a hot pink mohawk may not be so welcome).
And so, for all of the West-Kardashian hype and the rising star of the Pinkett-Smith clan, know that the power of the Beckham dynasty is still at its peak. You can thank two very good tuxedos.
