I'm Wearing Tie-Dye Socks All Summer. You Should, Too.

A little color goes a long way.

Summer is the best. It's bright and beautiful and everyone wants to drink rosé and hang out and do stuff.

Summer is also the worst. It's hot and humid and everyone wants to drink rosé and hang out and do stuff. And unless you have some pretty chilled-out friends, that means you have to get dressed. Which is, of course, the problem. How do you throw a decent fit together when it's 95 degrees and 95 percent humidity?

I'm definitely one of those guys who pines for the days when you can just toss on a light jacket and be done with it. But this summer, I've got a new resolution: I'm wearing tie-dye socks. Like, all the damn time. And I think you should, too.

Tie-Dye Socks

Urban Outfitters,

The problem with dressing for warm weather is that it's hard to show off any sort of personal style. Function beats form, which means all too often we opt for the least oppressive thing to wear in the heat and then resign ourselves to it. There are ways around this conundrum: good shorts, a camp-collar shirt, maybe even a necklace or two.

Hazy Sock

Richer Poorer,

While I don't plan to take any of those options off the table, for the summer of 2019, I'm thinking it's time to say fuck it and dive right in with a pair of tie-dye socks. If you've been keeping your eye on the fashion world, you'll know that tie-dyed everything is having a moment right now. But not everyone wants to go all the way in. A shirt or jacket is a declaration that might be a bit much for some guys. A pair of socks, though? Well, that's easy.

How should you wear them? Honestly, any way you like. Pull 'em up over low-key sneakers like Vans over the weekend and you can lean into the skater-slash-stoner vibe tie-dye had back in the '90s. Wear them under slim jeans with dress shoes and you can completely subvert the office dress code without raising too many eyebrows.

However you wear them, just know that you won't be alone. The warmer months demand a little more from us on the style front. And this year, I look forward to throwing off my overcoat, ditching the dark colors of winter, and letting my ankles do the talking. I hope you'll join me.
