Keanu Reeves' Saint Laurent Campaign Is Just the Right Amount of Mysterious
Keanu Reeves is far from idle this 2019. There's the soon-to-be-released third installment of John Wick, a Netflix original titled Always Be My Maybe, and a Toy Story 4 role. There's talk of the actor joining the Fast And Furious franchise. And pretty soon, you'll also be able to see the actor at a Saint Laurent boutique near you.
For its latest campaign, French fashion house Saint Laurent tapped the John Wick star to model its fall collection. The series of images was revealed by Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello on Instagram. Previously, Travis Scott and Kate Moss fronted the legendary brand's campaigns.
Reeves, of course, is a perfect fit for the brand, which, since Hedi Slimane's tenure began, has become synonymous with all things dark, mysterious, and rock 'n' roll—the black and white images are a lesson in just that.
Shot by David Sims, the first photo has Reeves bowing with eyes closed in an impeccable dark wool suit. Paired with wispy hair and thin, sleek sunglasses, Reeves is effortlessly cool. What we're looking at, however, is his mastery of the worst item in menswear: The black shirt.
The rest of the images show Reeves in Saint Laurent's signature leather jackets. One shows a full photo of the actor in a denim-style jacket, polka dot patterned shirt, and slim jeans while he stares intently at the camera. The other features a shearling collar which is also paired with a subtly patterned shirt.
A great leather jacket, after all, is the perfect finishing move. It can transform an otherwise normal outfit into an excellent one, as long as you don't make it wear you.
There's probably more to being mysterious than just brooding and wearing dark colors, but Keanu Reeves and Saint Laurent are a good start.
