A discerning, fashionable man doesn't go around peacocking his wardrobe choices with needlessly ostentatious options that just come off as tacky.

To give you a handy rule-of-thumb, a man with a genuine nose for class only needs one material to anchor everything in place. Think of lived-in leather as your new style ethos from now on as we help you step into your second skin.

Some animal had to die for you to wear whichever accoutrement you decide to put on, so it makes sense that you treat each piece with a certain level of reverence worthy of a time-tested, foundational pillar in the fashion world.

A well-worn duffle, a woven pouch, polished loafers, and a dependable backpack: these outlast seasonal trends because they carry texture and depth into even the simplest combinations. Keep the clothes understated, and let the accessories take over as these things are intended to age gracefully and build character.

Start out with a template that harnesses layers while keeping things relaxed for the weekend.

A dark indigo or denim overshirt paired with relaxed black trousers establishes the look. But it's the oversized duffle bag that changes the equation. What could have been a casual weekend outfit is elevated by the leather bag, giving the entire look confidence and the ease of someone who's always ready for the next trip.

For footwear, you can subscribe to the idea of "leave it to leather loafers" as a "break glass in case of fire" style rule since these are stupidly simple to pair with any outfit. Penny loafers or any other variant you choose to rock are meant to sharpen the ever-so-popular wide-leg trousers and are comfortable enough to maintain a semblance of looseness. Tying the outfit together are tinted sunglasses that wrap the entire silhouette in an amber glow to complement the warm patina of leather. One rule here: pick one substantial leather piece and let it run the show. Everything else falls in line.

Soft Tailoring, Hard Structure

Our second look embraces pink and white in a man's rotation as a go-to pairing for atmospheres that demand outfits that border on elevated loungewear. This is again where our accessory choices come into play to keep the class in.

A leather clutch bag could be your lifesaver if you need some place to store your stuff without all the bulk. The one we chose is a woven black leather piece that carries all the essentials without needing the briefcases or tote bags.

It adds the right amount of texture without disrupting the relaxed color pallette as a vehicle to balance the classiness scale.

While in the last look we leaned into the classic and undeniable timelessness of a leather loafer, this look favors the casual yet sleek proportions of an honest-to-goodness leather slip-on clog.

This one in particular is in suede, which also acts as a tactile accent to the outfit that now executes a one-two punch of matte and woven finishes.

This look hammers home a point of balancing soft fabric and structured accessories that make the man.

The Modern Everyday Carry and Commute

The last of our trio of leather-bound outfits is one for occasions that need you on the go without losing that polish of a modern gentleman. Start it off with a navy blue blazer, a straightforward polo shirt, and a trusty pair of denim pants. It does evoke the classic business casual outfit for the young executive, but once again we credit this look's charm to the rather posh accessories.

A leather backpack you can vouch for does the heavy lifting for practicality here and signals that you actually set out to do something that requires a workhorse of a bag that is capable of taking a beating when out in the elements.

Every man also needs a capable and functional pair of noise-canceling headphones to block out all outside worlds in transit during the overseas trips and commutes that need you to take a breather.

The headphones are also made out of lambskin and cowhide leather that sits gently against the skin and also shapes how rich these bad boys can sound.

This is what snazzy Japanese city-pop music imagined modern citizens are designed to look like: sharp without the stiffness and relaxed without looking sloppy.
