If Louis Vuitton were a band instead of a luxury fashion house, they would be playing...East Coast golden-age hip hop. Who knew.

Louis V and The Fragments is a music band that is part of the bustling downtown New York scene of the 1980s: think of the artists Keith Haring or Jean-Michel Basquiat; think Def Jam records, RUN-DMC, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, Beastie Boys. Too bad the band is fictitious, because that sounds pretty cool.

The music might be imaginary, but the fashion is real. For its collaboration with Fragment Design—its third collaboration of the year—Louis Vuitton built a collection around the fictional band, working with Japanese streetwear icon Hiroshi Fujiwara.

Fujiwara introduced the sounds and styles of '80s New York to Tokyo, bringing in the hip-hop and preppy varsity look of the music scene then to his home city. These influences are still at the heart of his fashion label, Fragment Design.

The Louis Vuitton x Fragment August-Winter 2017 Men’s pre-collection is currently featured at a pop-up store at the Surrender store in Singapore, open from April 22 to May 7. The collection will be available in the Philippines beginning next week.
