Virgil Abloh continues his exploration to reprogram dressing codes. As in his previous fall collection for Louis Vuitton, the artistic director has broken down clothes we currently wear and the way we wear them.

Abloh looked into archetypes that personified our dreams and aspirations as children like the artist, the salesman, the architect, and the drifter. It's these characters' archetypal uniforms and dress codes that Abloh wanted to challenge this season.

Dubbed "Ebonics / Snake Oil / The Black Box / Mirror collection," the collection was presented with a short film and artistic performance directed by filmmaker Wu Tsang. It takes from James Baldwin's essay Stranger in the Village where he writes about his experience as an African-American living in a Swiss village. The cast includes Kandis Williams, Tosh Basco, Saul Williams, Yasiin Bey, Black Cracker, and Steven Sowah.

Models walked down in structured garments based on familiar menswear codes. The amped-up takes were clear with the exaggerated silhouettes, unconventional materials, and more. A stand-out were the puffer coats that featured three-dimensional cityscapes which harked back to the architecture-trained fashion designer's background.

The tailored looks revolved around a color palette of stark white, dark blues, faded grays, and muted greens. While the prints ranged from graffiti-style graphics, marble-effect monogram, trompe l'oeil, and plaid.

The collection also effectively brought back an early 2000s gem: Monogram Miroir. This time around, the chrome-like material was used in more ways than it was previously done through outerwear and accessories combined with Louis Vuitton's signature leather trim.
