New Balance Releases New Jaden Smith Collab Colorways and TDS Niobium Concept 1
With all the sneaker goodness dropping this All-Star weekend, it’s going to be tough making decisions on what to spend your hard-earned coin on. But here are a few New Balance releases you should definitely check out.
NB for Jaden Smith Vision Racer
Jaden Smith’s vision for the future of footwear continues with two more colorways of his collab sneaker with the Boston-based brand. The NB for Jaden Smith Vision Racer, which premiered in July last year, releases in super clean white and black versions. The vegan-friendly silhouette conceptualized, designed and developed together with Will Smith’s visionary artist son integrates some of New Balance’s classic designs with his own unique way of defining style. The result is a fresh new product that pushes the boundaries for sustainably led sneakers.
Apart from Jaden’s work in music and fashion, his efforts in philanthropy and environmental awareness are well documented. The 22-year-old is the co-founder of Just Water, a boxed spring water company that has so far kept nearly 4.4 million pounds of carbon from being emitted into the atmosphere.
“Jaden proudly represents the brand’s values which is why, in turn, New Balance is drawn to him resulting in this collaboration,” says MAP Active Assistant Marketing Manager Mishka Rafael. The NB for Jaden Smith Vision Racer is the direct result of his commitment to sustainability and progressive fashion merged with Jaden’s appreciation for classic New Balance styles.
Inspired by features of the classic 1700 and the sportier X-Racer, Jaden adds his fashion-forward flavor to come up with what he hopes to be a step in the right direction for the future of the brand’s footwear. Partially recycled materials are incorporated in each element of the shoe. It features a midsole with five percent EVA Regrind and a partially recycled insole. The shoe’s upper makes use of synthetics from recycled content and recycled polyester.
With all these new changes, the shoe does not skimp on durability you’d expect from its predecessors. New Balance made sure to produce a sneaker that can keep up with the demands and beatings from Jaden’s high intensity performances and skateboarding.
Personally, the most striking feature of the shoe is definitely the exaggerated iced outsole with the “Vision” print on the bottom. Both white and black colorways come with extra laces that give the shoe a pop of pink, consistent with the color of the Vision Racer branding on the sneaker’s upper piping that’s made for better visibility at night.
TDS Niobium Concept 1
Another shoe to watch out for also releasing on the same day is the TDS Niobium Concept 1, a new concept sneaker done together with Tokyo Design Studio. This shoe is as far out as it gets. Named after the 41st element on the periodic table, Niobium (Nb) is a refractory metal with a higher melting point than even that of Platinum. It is also resistant to many chemicals and can be easily molded at relatively low temperatures. Surface treatments allow its silver-white color, similar to most other metals, to shine like rainbow. All these elements of this, um, element are expressed in the shoe.
The Niobium Concept 1 mashes the sole unit of New Balance’s bestselling MT801 trail running shoe with an interchangeable waterproof “eVent” bootie upper that can be switched with a sandal lining all with the flick of a zipper. A schizo pair of Niobium Concept 1s can shape-shift from being waterproof boots perfect for all conditions, to outdoor sandals, and even to bedroom slippers for use inside a tent or indoors. The new age sneaker comes in New Balance’s iconic grey, giving props to the past.
Both new colorways of the NB for Jaden Smith Vision Racer as well as the TDS Niobium Concept 1 will release in Manila beginning Saturday, March 6, exclusively in Commonwealth stores.
