Opening Ceremony’s Bold New Birkenstocks Are a Big Middle Finger to Boring Footwear
Birkenstock sandals have always been, and probably always will be, divisive. First, because men's sandals are a highly contested subject. (Usually, that's the fault of un-groomed feet and not the fault of the sandal.) Second, because the structure of a sandal doesn't have the universal appeal that a boot or sneaker might. But who cares? That's the whole point! Instead of fighting it, Birkenstock leans in. A chunky cork-and-rubber bottom? Big ol' straps? Bring 'em on.
This season, the shoe just got even bolder: Birkenstock teamed up with Opening Ceremony to launch a special take on the brand's classic Zurich sandal. The sandal features Birkenstock's signature cork sole—the one that molds to your feet as you wear it—but instead of the brand's generally understated palette, the uppers are rendered in screaming-loud neon. There are three versions: green, yellow, and coral, all of which are absolutely unmissable. Now the only question is: How do you want to turn heads this summer?
