Patrick Demarchelier, French fashion and portrait photographer, has died at the age of 78. The news of the photographer's passing was announced on his Instagram with the statement: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick Demarchelier on March 31st 2022, at the age of 78."
Throughout his career, Demarchelier shot numerous fashion campaigns for Chanel, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, and more. His editorial work has been published in Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, Teen Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Allure, to name a few.
Demarchelier was also publicly known as Princess Diana's favorite photographer. He famously shot the image of the royal wearing a strapless dress and tiara. She later asked Demarchelier to be her personal portraitist.
He was immortalized in 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada where he was referenced as fashion magazine editor character Miranda Priestly's photographer of choice. He made a cameo in Sex and the City, and was a recurring guest on America's Next Top Model.
He is survived by his wife Mia, his three sons Gustaf, Arthur, Victor, and three grandchildren.
