Penshoppe Takes On That Striped Shirt You've Been Seeing Everywhere
Have you seen this shirt? Or the many iterations of striped, triple-color, short-sleeve shirt (blue, yellow, white—and black, so really it's four!) by French brand Sandro on someone?
Most probably you have, because this very particular style of alternating vertical stripes, with one vibrant color, became the shirt du jour in places where summer is happening right now (as in, not here) and then spread like wildfire throughout the world because it's just so awesome.
So popular is the shirt that it has its own Instagram account, @thatstripedshirt, where stripe-lovers live in some sort of blissful digital unity.
Even Zayn Malik, he of the dreamy eyes and the perfect face, has been spotted in a variation of the style. His is a pullover in blue, soft melon, and green from the pre-holiday 2018 collection of Penshoppe, and he wears it (perfectly) while sitting in a classic car and staring into your soul (as you drive through EDSA).
Penshoppe’s pre-holiday collection weaves together elements from classic Ivy League dressing and the contemporary athleisure style. And what do preppy and sporty have in common? Stripes, alternating vertical bands of color included!
In fact, in the homegrown-but-global company's collection, there are a lot of striped goodness for men, from a short-sleeve shirt reminscent of that particular French shirt, but in retro colors, and a blood red T-shirt with dark stripes outlined in pink.
A long-sleeve shirt with green and white horizontal bands recalls a rugby shirt. More preppy are the tartans and check patterns on trousers, jackets (the baby-faced Nam Joo Hyuk wears a zip-up), and a stand-out hoodie in the classic pairing of red and blue.
Elsewhere, a short-sleeve shirt with a rogue print of what looks like blue foliage and pineapples serves as a palate cleanser to all these lines.
But back to that shirt: If you want to get into what's now and maybe slide into the Instagram of the social media micro-trend, head over to Penshoppe for the local version and then take an OOTD. This season might be its last.
