The brand with the three stripes is welcoming the Year of The Dog with Chinese New Year-inspired colorways of the Adidas EQT ADV and the Adidas NMD R2. Adidas Originals has celebrated recent Chinese New Years with commemorative sneaker releases, and it seems that they’re not looking to break tradition in 2018.

Both the EQT ADV and the NMD R2 sport white mesh with some hints of faint beige along the upper, metallic aglets, and bright red accents. Notably, the EQT bears the Chinese character “Lu” on its heel patch, meaning "wealth"; while the NMD bears the Chinese character “Xi,” which means "happiness".

Unlike many previous Chinese New Year releases from Adidas Originals, these colorways are simple, minimal, and elegant—just solid white sneakers, accented with a strong shade of red. No need for loud and overt references to the occasion (which is more than can be said for the Year of The Snake Superstars from 2013). We imagine these would go well with dark denim jeans or chinos.

These two models are actually part of a “CNY” pack of four sneakers, which also includes and Adidas Campus and and Adidas Superstar in similar shades. However, Adidas Philippines has only confirmed the EQTs and the NMDs for a local release.

The Adidas Originals “CNY” Pack drops in local Adidas retailers on Saturday, January 13.
