What to Expect from Stylefest, the Biggest Fashion Event in the Country

Globe steps into the glossy world of fashion with a three-day expo.

Fashion without the spectacle is but clothes on a rack, so you need the shows, the presentations, and the unbridled gloss to make that shirt or jacket come alive.

In this spirit, telecoms giant Globe is putting together the biggest fashion spectacle in Manila. From the seventh to the ninth of September, Stylefest offers a complete experience with runway shows, lectures, shopping, and, of course, glossy parties.

Here's a quick guide to its can't-miss highlights:

Day One

Founder of Electric Runway Amanda Cosco speaks on the many opportunties of marrying technology with fashion, while designer Bang Pineda holds his first female runway show featuring an all-star (and secret) cast of powerful women.

Day Two

The spotlight lands on Philippine retail in a lecture with Paulo Campos of Zalora, Jenni Epperson, Amina Aranaz, and more. At night, winners of Stylefest's mentorship program take over the runway.

The eight winners, under the banners of Zalora and 0917 Lifestyle, Globe's own apparel line, have been guided, from sketching a dress to putting up a business, by insiders such as Inno Sotto. With a vision to create digital opportunities for fashion, they will also have their pieces sold at Zalora.

Day Three

Finally, ready-to-wear shows by Maureen Disini, Michael Leyva, Martin Bautista, and Patty Ang caps off the presentations.

Parties punctuate each day with the final blowout featuring performances by Carousel Casualties, Rob & The Hitmen, SUD, and IV of Spades and, of course, appearances from the stars of the fashion and beauty world, all dressed, we predict, deliciously.

Everything goes down at the Grand Hyatt Manila in BGC. And througout, a retail expo—a universe unto itself, describes Globe—happens simultaenously at the Globe Iconic BHS Amphitheater. Here is where you can shop for the pieces that you just saw on the runway and more.

Now, if you're asking why Globe is stepping into world of fashion, it's because your communication provider would like to shift into a platform company for your passions.

As the starting point of your digital life, Globe already connects you to the things that consume your every waking moment: Facebook, Instagram, Netflix. But aside from being a key to the Internet, the company has been creating its own lifestyle eco-system with music, film, theater, food, travel, gaming, and fashion, too.

For example, the big concerts of Madonna and Coldplay were via Globe. It has set up its own independent film festival, as well as dabbled into filmmaking with Birdshot, the first Filipino movie released on Netflix, and the hotly anticipated Goyo. Globe also presented the Manila run of Wicked and, most recently, Eto Na! Musikal nAPO.

The company reports that it sees plenty of activity from users in fashion and lifestyle with, for example, Zalora Fashion Night Out. But Stylefest is a bigger idea as it unites the players of fashion in one mega event. Nobody is a spectator and everybody is a collaborator is the theme: You see the clothes on the runway and then you can buy the clothes over at the expo. You can also learn about the inner workings of fashion through experts made available in lectures.

If you're serious about fashion, want to get into the biz, or just want to see all its beautiful creations (and people), this is the event for you.
