This New Local Streetwear Label Takes Cues From The '90s

Support Your Friends takes a swing at the resurgence of 1990s athletic wear.

The Cruz brothers took a crack at putting up their own streetwear brand a number of different times, but none worked quite so well for them as when they scribbled the words "Support Your Friends" on a hat. Ralph and Randell captured, in three words, something simple, earnest, and community-oriented—everything that streetwear should be. That went on to become the name of their little pet project: SYF, which just dropped a collection last week, at a pop-up party in Kapwa Studios, Poblacion.

Their latest delivery boasts a line of casual athletic wear that invokes the '90s—a thorough throwback with striped tees, color-blocked hoodies, graphic sweats, and jersey track suits. Think athleisure, but two decades ago—basics with a little vintage flavor.

Altogether, it's a strong mix of clothes that's actually quite current in its decision to throw it back to the '90s. Consider throwing something new into your look for 2018 by mixing these pieces with more traditional menswear staples (a denim jacket, perhaps, or a pair of heavyweight chinos) and chalk SYF up on the growing list of local streetwear labels to watch out for.
