Earlier today at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the Bureau of Customs seized a total of P40 million worth of beauty products, skimming devices, and most interestingly, hyped-up sneakers, all disguised in balikbayan boxes and likely misdeclared. Check it out:

.

Of the entire seizure, there were 15 balikbayan boxes containing 111 pairs of sneakers with "an estimated market value of P7 million," according to BOC-NAIA. And while some of the sneakers seem more suspect than others in terms of authenticity, the Bureau identified and listed them all in their own words: "Brands included are Nike Airmax DLX, Airmax 1/97 VF SW, Nike Vapormax FK, Adidas Yeezy Powerhouse CG6420, Adidas PW Holi NMD MC, Vans Era 95 DX, Balenciaga sneakers, Air Jordan 1 Retro, and used Nike sneakers."

But barring fakes, even a cursory glance at the photos shows that they've stumbled upon a motherlode of the most coveted sneakers today: Yeezy Powerphases, Wotherspoon Air Max 1s, Off-White Vapormaxes, and Fear of God Eras, to name a few. Which means that somewhere out there, a serious hypebeast is weeping, perhaps while bumping Kanye's new album in the background.

In the comments section of the subsequent press conference, the Bureau offered further details on the seizure. The sneakers came from Italy, and will be subject to "seizure and forfeiture proceedings in accordance with Section 400, 1113, and 1117 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act." Bureau Commissioner Isidro Lapena clarified: "The seized products by the Bureau of Customs NAIA will be subject of destruction while the original products will either be [destroyed] or auctioned off," adding that "All fake products seized by the BOC will be destroyed."

Here's to hoping that the sneakers are all originals, and that they'd be auctioned off for modest prices.
