The Simpsons x Vans Collection Is A Mind-Bending Sneaker Journey
The brain is a powerful thing. It convinces you to want things you shouldn’t even consider. Take the soon-to-be-released The Simpsons x Vans collection, which features, among its lineup of shoes and clothing, a pair of slides in the style of Homer’s favorite snack, the pink-glazed donut with sprinkles. It looks like this:
Can a grown man with a serious job wear hot pink donut slides, a Lisa Simpson fanny pack, and a tie-dye T-shirt that says, Party Hearty?
But, says Brain, this is Vans, the cool sneaker company that gave the world the checkerboard Slip-Ons, the ones worn by Sean Penn in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and the chunky Old Skool, which you wore to death in high school and still wear today (it’s that tough).
Brain also points out that this features The Simpsons. Who are you to turn your nose up on the first family of animation (sorry, Jetsons), the very ones who taught you the best answers to any question: “D’oh” and “Eat my shorts.”
And so, brain concludes, if you put the two beloved brands together, you get an even greater thing, a collection of goods that are not only over-the-top and dripping with nostalgia, but also clever. Can you spot all the Easter eggs in the merch? Take a look.
These high-tops tell the story of Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart, and little Maggie's glow-up.
Marge and her sisters revel in their big fluffy hair, but Patty and Selma take it to the next level—on their legs.
It doesn’t snow in these parts but we’re still digging the deep blue hue and the Mr. Plow call out.
We’re looking at the shoes, which is in another cool blue tone (they’ll be a challenge to wear though).
Finally, we know what Krusty Burger cooks in the kitchen.
Not everything shouts, as in this hoodie with just a hint of rebellion care of a Bart skull patch.
Among the caps in the collection, Lisa’s is the nerdiest and dad cap-piest—and therefore our pick.
If you really want to honor the 30-year-old show, this Slip-On features most of its stars, including the beleaguered Apu.
Hey, that’s a lot to process (is your brain okay?), but it’s all good fun. If you’re taking the plunge into the cartoon world of Vans, sign up at its special site to be notified of the collection’s arrival (sources report August 7 as the release date). One more tip: As with all hot collabs, the fastest clicker wins. Good luck.
