We are a little late to the party, because elsewhere in Asia, sunglasses have juiced up. Lenses have grown bigger and bigger, gives faces a fresh audacity, even more mystery, or an added kick of obnoxiousness, and if you’re practical, extra protection against the sun, too.

While other eyewear trends have flooded the market (flat lenses, round lenses, double bridges), it’s still a bit difficult to find truly outsized sunglasses. You’d have to fly to South Korea, land of cool things, to score a pair from Gentle Monster, a local purveyor of these kinds of eyewear.

Or you can wait for a new player like Mujosh to quietly open in three far-off locations, sneaking up on you with an excellent selection of out-there suns and frames. With a pool of designers from Hong Kong, Korea, and China, the young company from Hong Kong is in tune with what the region wants, and what people want is something not usual.

If you want to dive into the new world of outre sunglasses, there is a pair with built-in brows, another that is outlined with an extra frame (for a halo effect), and these five-sided lenses that seem to have come from a steampunk fever dream. These will take a bit of courage to wear. Expect stares.

But if you’re a little wary of putting yourself out there, you can try their amped up takes on classic shapes like the aviator or wayfarer. These are just more substantial—bigger and thicker and will not take a long time to get used to.
