Uniqlo Is Bringing Back Its Legendary +J Collection With Jil Sander
Think back to life before Uniqlo arrived on our shores. You're probably getting visions of gaudy graphic T-shirts, douchey deep V-necks, and super skin-tight jeans. The year was 2009 and minimalism wasn't at all in our vocabulary. Uniqlo, however, was way ahead of its time as it had just come out with a Jil Sander collab.
To say we missed out would be a great understatement, but the good news is we're getting another chance to shop one of the best collabs of all time as Uniqlo has just announced the return of its +J collection this fall.
In a statement, Uniqlo said: "A legendary collaboration returns. Eleven years after our first successful collaboration, legendary designer Jil Sander returns to UNIQLO with her signature modernist style. Launching Fall 2020, +J continues to define the global modern uniform with understatement and ease."
The longtime partnership lasted from 2009 to 2011, and key pieces were even relaunched in 2014 due to overwhelming popular demand. It's safe to say, we can expect the same high-quality pieces from +J. But, are we also getting the same 40-piece menswear collection as before?
The closest thing to a clue is a newly published interview with Uniqlo, wherein Sander says: "I do not work with visions or muses, neither with a mood board only. My creativity relies on the fitting and experimenting with fabrics. I exclude and at the same time push in certain directions. As I said, my eyes are fine-tuned to the emerging shape."
