We imagine the Uniqlo Paris R&D Center looks like heaven, a place where Christophe Lemaire, formerly of Hermès and now artistic director of the Japanese retailer's outpost in Europe (there are parallel locations in Tokyo, Shanghai, New York, and Los Angeles) can do his good work of perfecting an already perfect shirt, with the help of the best patternmakers and international designers—plus that killer view.

For the new year, Lemaire and the Paris R&D team propose pep, zing, and vim via an injection of many different colors in their latest Uniqlo U set. Color feels like an obvious flourish but, really, it is what you put on when you want to feel good. Try a pair of colored socks on a downcast day, and you'll see what we mean.

The 50 pieces for men, in fact, takes on a spectrum of hues, from earthy to inky, from bright hot tangerine to rich emerald green, from a faded plum to a cool-right-now mustard, all tuned to make you feel something (or, at least, look good).

Two things to look out for: The crewneck T-shirts, which are always winners, now come in an updated silhouette, and judging by the pre-release images, they appear more oversized and even boxier, with a pocket slung slightly lower than previous iterations. These will be perfect for lazy, easy days.

There are also the wide-fit linen shirts that, in their roomy shape and soft fabric, will keep you in style no matter how warm the weather gets. Get the one in dusty pink. That one has just the right amount of happy. See more below.
