This 'Panda Style' Watch Is An Instant Classic

With the the spirit of travel and escapism in mind, Vacheron Constantin released the Overseas watch 20 years ago. Key details of the favorite model include a distinctive six-sided bezel, a self-winding movement, high legibility, and the recent addition of bracelet and strap interchangeablity.

This year, the Swiss watchmakers gives the Overseas a makeover with powerful black dials. The new styles come in two versions: an understated self-winding three-hand watch and a chronograph.

Notably, the choronograph's pairing of a black dial and three silver-toned counters creates one of the most appealing watch designs ever made: the panda dial. This iconic style (think Paul Neman and his Daytona) is aesthically pleasing, a little funny, and also useful. The color scheme recalls the cuddly face of a panda (can you see its two eyes staring back at you?), while the high contrast serves only to make the watch details more readable.

This one, in particular, is even more special as it is a “reverse panda” with light counters set against black (a panda has patches of black against mostly white fur, you know).

What you'll also like are the interchangeable straps, which can change the mood of the Overseas in an instant. These come in either a stainless steel bracelet formed by half Maltese crosses or straps in alligator leather or sporty rubber, and can be installed without the use of tools.

Suitable for anytime and any place, both the panda and the three-hand style are strong candidates for your daily timekeeper.
