When in doubt, dress up. That has always been the rule. But there are, understandably, days when a sleazy fit just does it. Just look to Justin Bieber, Brooklyn Beckham, and even Justin Theroux for reference.

This isn't always the case, however. Sometimes, you have to dress up without really doing so, especially when the dress code is frustratingly ambiguous.

Luckily, the right style combination can land you in the casual-yet-dressy spectrum. Hitting that sweet spot, however, is where it gets tricky.

Case in point, Victor Basa at the Samsonite event at One Bonifacio High Street. The actor and blogger followed the rules while looking effortlessly casual in a blue shirt, smart pair of trousers, and monk strap shoes topped off with a sartorial denim jacket.

Throwing a grown-up piece of outerwear such as a safari jacket, suede jacket, or denim jacket in place of a blazer is something you can also try for smarter occasions.

What really added to Basa's cause is how he unbuttoned his shirt and jacket's sleeves. Which is something to keep in mind if you happen to be going from a work meeting to a casual event or vice versa.
