A Very Specific Gift Guide for Millennial Moms Who Love To Smell Nice

What millennial women want are bigger and bolder scents.

Guys, guess what? There's something new brewing in the perfume world: Bigger, bolder, and more potent floral scents are trending because that what millenials and also their successor, Gen Z-ers (The Zs? Zeers? Post Millens?), would like to smell like.

The days when people would prefer to smell like the suggestion of a moment are numbered. From now, the height of summer, until the next shift, expect the velvet punch of intoxicated petals wafting through the air to pleasure your nose caves. According to a beauty insider, the last time she remembers this happening was during the Time of the Grannies, a happy period when the potion of choice was Shalimar or Chanel No. 5. Remember those?

So, for the millennial woman who happens to be a mommy—such as Esquire Philippines' Women We Love, Marian Rivera, Jennylyn Mercado, and Sarah Lahbati—here are very new scents that will please her.

In the service of men, we've sniffed them all, and we must confess that it started to get hazy at the end—and this may happen to you, too, if you venture to the perfume floor on your own. To sort it out, choose your Mother's Day gift by personality (what is your wife or mother like), flower (you know her favorite right?), or bottle (when in doubt, pick something that will look good on the vanity). Here we go:

1| AMO FERRAGAMO BY SALVATORE FERRAGAMO

This is she: Not to be confused with that Netflix movie, the “amo” here refers to the Italian word for “I love.” Which is exactly what a sieze-the-moment kind of woman would declare to the world, a man, or a thing she just, well, loves.

Bud power: Jasmine with rhubarb. Yum.

Can we talk about the bottle? Echoing the perfume bottles of yore, this will be perfect for a shelfie.

.

2| NOMADE BY CHLOE

This is she: Obviously, this is for someone who suffers from Must Wander Syndrome, a woman who is on an “...infinite journey colored by new horizons.” She's always going somehwere!

Bud power: Freesia punctuated by voluptuous mirabelle plum.

Can we talk about the bottle? A clear flacon with O-shaped curves is reminiscent of possibility.

3| DOLCE GARDEN BY DOLCE&GABBANA

This is she: She loves simple pleasures like dancing in the garden on a lazy afternoon. Is that weird?

Bud power: The luscious frangipani blossom is spiked with the milky sweetness of coconut, almond milk, and vanilla.

Can we talk about the bottle? Three words: playful, pastel, pink. The tactile flower cap is a nice touch.

P6,950 for 75ml, P5,350 for 50ml, and P4,000 for 30ml

.

4 | LE PARFUM IN WHITE BY ELIE SAAB

.

This is she: A woman who is unabashedly feminine and probably has a thick wedding scrapbook from girlhood.

Bud power: A white bouquet—the white bouquet for her wedding. Jasmine and ylang-ylang is at its heart.

Can we talk about the bottle? Will remind you of your wife on that fateful day (the white cap is the veil).

P6,600 for 90ml, P5,300 for 50ml, and P3,600 for 30ml

.

5| BLOSSOM SPECIAL EDITION BY JIMMY CHOO

This is she: Jimmy Choo paints a picture of a woman who loves bright orange and glitter (yes, really), so she is like an emoji crossed with sparkle text?

Bud power: The frangipani, also known as plumeria, also known as kalachuchi. Mixed with exotic fruits, it blooms into a joyful scent.

Can we talk about the bottle? Orange lacquer colors the diamond-like bottle. Pretty.

P5,998 for 100ml and P2,898 for 40ml

.

6| L'EAU D'ISSEY PURE NECTAR BY ISSEY MIYAKE

This is she: In every sense, she is like the Japanese fashion house: forward-thinking, highly conceptual, and just plain cool.

Bud power: The third in a series that began with the scent of water, this one is a carnal rose abloom with juicy pear doused in honey.

Can we talk about the bottle? What looks like a weapon is actually the embodiment of a water drop.

P6,050 for 90ml, P4,800 for 50ml, and P3,000 for 30ml

.

7| MODERN PRINCESS BY LANVIN

This is she: Says Lanvin, “She is audacious, transgressive, and lives in a mysterious way.”

Bud power: Peony with jasmine petals plus peach.

Can we talk about the bottle? Appropriately reminds you of the twirly part of a princess ball gown. A pink-orange scheme is in play.

P4,898 for 90ml, P3,598 for 60ml, and P2,598 for 30ml

.

8| DAISY EAU SO FRESH TWINKLE EDITION BY MARC JACOBS

This is she: The sunny and spirited woman whose sanctuary is a warm summer day.

Bud power: Violet flower, wild rose, and raspberry make for an effervescent mix.

Can we talk about the bottle? The daisy cap is like catnip for women. This time, it's dressed in soft violet and gold, an evocation of endless summer.

P4,798 for 75ml

Available at leading perfume counters.
