How To Deal With Your Awful Bacne Problem

Don't pop 'em.
Comments

Although acne sounds like a distant, adolescent terror that should have been left behind in high school, grown men are still afflicted with the occasional breakout. This can come in the form of bacne and other forms of body acne that can kill self-esteem.

Zits happen when a sweat gland or hair follicle becomes blocked, and this could be entirely due to genetics, although other factors could influence the likelihood of a pimple showing up.

The question is, should you pop it?

Don't do it
Thanks to those Facebook videos, pimple-popping seems more tempting than ever, but unless you’re doing it with a dermatologist-approved tool, it’s best to leave the popping to the pros. Pressing down on the skin ruptures the pimple and spreads pus below the skin, and that could potentially make things worse.

Know what's up
Your first order of business should be figuring out what’s causing the pimple. Spending a lot of time at the gym, as well as other possible reasons like hygiene, hormones, and stress can be the culprit behind the onslaught of zits. Once you figure the cause, avoid it. Stay clean, live well, and keep calm.

Don’t skip the showers
There is truth to your mom's constant reminder to always take a shower when you were younger. A shower rinses off dirt, grime, and sweat. It also rids you of excess oils, which can lead to acne. Try a body wash or soap with salicylic acid.

Pass on the spandex
You have to let your skin breathe. Spandex, which is tighter and thicker than cotton, traps moisture and oils that can clog your pores and lead to a breakout. Opt for loose, lightweight cotton clothing that’s a whole lot more comfortable anyway.

Change your sheets
Unchanged sheets mean you’re lying in a hotbed of accumulated dirt, grime, sweat, dead skin cells for days, weeks, or even months, depending on how often you actually bother changing them. Please do yourself and your girlfriend a favor and have those sheets replaced ASAP.

Exfoliate with AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) and BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acids)
Both acids are used in some of the most popular skincare treatments. AHAs are used to slough off the outer layer of dead skin cells, which results in refreshed, smoother skin. Meanwhile, BHAs clean the dirt from inside your pores, and are best for exfoliating and improving skin tone. Take note of these acids when choosing grooming products.
