It's been over five years since Porsajika Thongsuk founded BFF, but the beauty multi-brand concept hasn't slowed down since. To date, BFF has over 40 brands in its matrix which includes brick-and-mortar locations in Thailand and an online shop in the Philippines.

On the first anniversary of BFF Manila, the skincare curator is set to upgrade its personalized shopping experience to the next level with a brand new digital facade, discounts, rewards, and more. We spoke with founder Por Sajika about BFF Manila, the (many) challenges of running a business, and, of course, men's grooming essentials.

How did your interest in beauty and skincare start?

I have been a beauty junkie since I was young. At the age of five, instead of putting toys in my pocket, I was putting on sunscreen. Once I started traveling, I tried all the international brands that interest me and that’s how my knowledge of skincare grew further.

What was the motivation behind founding BFF?

I love niche brands and I love to share good brands with my friends. It started when I was traveling abroad and I brought home products that intrigued me. I sent some to my friends depending on what I think will suit them.

What was the learning curve in starting BFF?

Every day is a new beginning, even now. I was very new to the industry at the time (five years ago) and I had no experience in this business so everything was a challenge for me. Now with the pandemic, I prioritize improving my skills every day—researching news, trends, and talking to customers—all these help me stay on top of my game.

BFF has over 40 brands which you all have access to. What are the essentials in your skincare routine?

There are so many but I couldn’t live without the sunscreen, cleanser, lip balm, and moisturizer I adore.

What skincare trend are you currently drawn to?

Ampoules and modeling masks. (Side note: Ampoules are supercharged serums with a higher dose of select active ingredients. While modeling masks, or "rubber masks" as some call them, have is a thick gooey mix of active ingredients the skin needs.)

The rise of beauty has also led to more men interested in grooming. What do you think men need in their routine?

For skin, please gentlemen wash your face with products that suit you and put on sunscreen. For hair, dandruff is not sexy at all so be sure to address that and keep in mind that hair loss can be prevented.

What's next for BFF?

BFF is my legacy, my home, my BFF literally. I work with a talented team and I’m sure that we’ll surprise everyone with more skincare, haircare, and wellness innovations and curations in the years to come.
