Audemars Piguet, Rolex, and More Have Temporarily Shut Down Factories

The Swiss government shut down all shops, restaurants, bars, and entertainment and leisure facilities through a declaration of a state of emergency.

Several Swiss watch manufacturers have announced the temporary closure of its watchmaking facilities amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Rolex was among the first to make the move by shutting down operations in Geneva, Bienne, and Crisser for 10 days. The announcement was announced by Rolex CEO Jean-Frederic Dufour in a statement to the company.

Audemars Piguet took its statement to Twitter, saying, "In this period of uncertainty, people’s safety remains at the heart of our priorities. This is why we have decided to close our Swiss production sites as well as some of our offices and boutiques in various countries until the end of March."

More and more have followed suit, including Hublot, Patek Philippe, and Maximilian Busser and Friends. 

Hublot made the update on Instagram: "Due to the global spread of COVID-19, as a precautionary measure, and in order to protect the health and well-being of our staff and their families, we have decided to temporarily close our Manufacture’s production site until further notice. We are confident in our ability to collectively rise to meet new challenges and will overcome this crisis, together."
