The IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Top Gun Edition “SFTI” takes inspiration from the company’s acclaimed “Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor” watch, the 2018 model created in honor of the U.S. Naval Aviation Community, made in collaboration with instructors based in the Naval Air Station Leemore, and available only for graduates of the Navy Fighter Weapons School.

While you can’t get your hands on the original Instructor watch, you can shoot for this 2020 Top Gun edition. Following its progenitor, the new chronograph is made with robust materials, ceramic and Ceratanium, both of which can withstand the extreme strain that pilots experience in the cockpit of supersonic jets.

The Top Gun’s 44-millimeter case is made of black zirconium oxide ceramic (ceramic, which ranks among the hardest substances on earth, is extremely scratch-resistant), while the case back and chronograph pushers are made of Ceratanium, an IWC material that is as light and durable as titanium but as hard and scratch-resistant as ceramic.

The use of ceramic and Ceratanium gives the chronograph an entirely matte black design, a tactical look enhanced even more by a black dial and black hands coated with luminescence, as well as doses of red in the small second hand and the tail of the chronograph second hand, which takes the form of a jet.

Of course, this is a performer. Under the hood of the new watch is the 69380 caliber, the IWC chronograph movement that ensures precise timekeeping and the measurement of stopwatch times of up to 12 hours. One more thing: The new IWC Top Gun watch is limited to only 1,500 pieces, so you’ll have to make supersonic moves to get one.
