All the Masterfully Crafted Leather Furniture to Check Out in Baxter's New Collection
For Baxter, skin is always in season.

In good interior design, as in many forms of good art, the whole should be more than the sum of its parts. A home’s palettes, themes, and decor—even its bathroom fixtures—when put together, create an experience, a feeling, a mood.
Baxter, a luxury furniture maker that hails from Italy and specializes in fine bull leather, puts this thought into every piece it creates.
With all of 30 years of experience in using bull leather to craft fine furniture, Baxter has become a distinguished name in the world of design. The company sources this leather from the mountains of Northern Europe, and passes it on to master tanners, artisans, and elite designers. It started in 1990 with a vintage British style and continues to evolve and adapt to the taste and preferences of 21st-century homemakers.
Baxter’s legacy is fine furniture designed with elastic, resistant, and breathable leather, with marks and imperfections that make every piece unique—ones that are appreciated best by a discerning clientele.
To Baxter, skin is always in season, which means leather furniture can—and should—create for those who use it a unique feeling, an air of luxury, a mood. That’s why each of Baxter’s clients can expect furniture that isn’t just beautiful on its own, but also well-suited to the living space in which it’s placed.
Acclaimed Italian designer Paola Navone understands the need to create furniture that evokes emotions, too, and applied it when she created 8 Catalog, her collection with Baxter.
“For this sofa, we imagined a shape,” Navone explained in one of her virtual presentations. “But the most important thing we thought about was the feeling that a person should have perceived when sitting on the sofa.”
The 8 Catalog
Navone is considered to be among the most progressive Italian designers of her generation. She is known for her taste for the avant-garde, as well as her special proclivities for different cultures, especially Asian ones. She’s been known to challenge traditions, and that irreverence reflects in her works.
While she now works with Baxter, the artist admits that she used to think of leather furniture as stiff. Something “too office, car, train-style.” But when Baxter gave her carte blanche to use its bull leather for 8 Catalog, Navone fell in love with the material. The result: fine leather furniture that’s casual, informal, and sensual.
Among the standouts in the collection is a whimsical statement piece that playfully reinterprets the traditional chesterfield-type sofa. There are also classic leather armchairs with surprising details, and patio chairs with weaved leather for a luxuriously laid-back vibe.
“I immediately fell in love with that energy inside the company, reflected in the manufacture of leather, leather with natural dyes and, therefore leather in all its imperfections,” shared Navone. “It was really extraordinary, and I realized that it could somehow be suitable for some experimentations that could lead beyond quite traditional channels of leather furniture.”
Baxter's 2021 collection will be launched this September in Kuysen Design + Experience Center, Makati showroom. Further details will be announced soon.
