French Designer Philippe Starck Teams Up With Duravit For An Elegant Bathroom Collection

Among the silver linings of lockdown is that we now have time to refurbish and redesign our homes. But if you’ve finished working on your living room, bedroom, and home office, then look to the work of French industrial architect and designer Philippe Starck, who has collaborated with leading international bathroom manufacturer Duravit. Delicate, expressive, and sophisticated, this first complete bathroom range by Starck is entitled White Tulip, and it’s designed to allow your individual creativity and character to bloom, while offering a feeling of positive nostalgia amid the noise and chaos of our time. The bathroom, after all, is your private sanctuary at home.

From bathtubs to washbasins and furniture, to toilets and bidets, to connected mirrors and a complete collection of faucets, the delicate and elegant form of all components in the series echoes the organic silhouette of a tulip in bloom—exuding a sculptural and affectionate character.

With their unique ergonomics and ability to blend into a wide range of styles, the versatile designs of the White Tulip collection are ideal for all interiors—from the cultured and sophisticated urban environment to the fresh and natural ambience of a country house. All would benefit from the signature innovative design, comfort-enhancing technology, and premium quality of Duravit.

“My collaboration with Duravit always naturally leaned towards minimal and timeless designs,” says Starck. “Yet I realized that this perfection was perhaps missing a parameter, a feeling of positive nostalgia. Instead of creating absolute timeless pieces, I wanted to place the White Tulip collection more into human time; it could either be an ancient collection that would have been modern at the time, or a modern collection with the memory of the past.”

“White Tulip is a very sophisticated collection with a strong sense of ergonomics, but it is above all delicate and affectionate which makes all the difference,” he adds.

The monolithic design of the free-standing ceramic washbasin is particularly eye-catching. The washbasin can be attached to the wall or the floor as required. The round above-counter basin impresses with its aesthetic, delicately outward sloping edge. The right-angled washbasin, when viewed from above, also reflects this form. It is available in two sizes, each also as a furniture washbasin, as is the hand-rinse basin, which completes the range.

Even better: The matching free-standing and wall-mounted toilets and bidets complement the ceramic elements. And yes, the collection can be found on the matching urinal, too.

Equipped with the new HygieneFlush technology, this flushing technique helps clean even the entire inner surface of the toilet—thanks to the perfectly attuned water flow.

It doesn’t end with ceramics and fixtures, though. There’s also matching furniture that’s as elegant and refined as the entire range. The semi-tall cabinets, for instance, come with two or three glass shelves and are available in a choice of five high-quality colors with high gloss or satin matt lacquer. What we love about the latter is it includes a special feature which helps fade small scratches—making the furniture looks good as new. Its special anti-fingerprint coating makes cleaning and care easy, too. Note that you can choose between a solid wood finish of Natural Oak and American Walnut for the fronts.

As for the chrome handle, its distinct design can be used to contrast with the matt lacquers and solid wood surfaces or produce a striking effect on high-gloss lacquer. Fitted with ring pull handles, the drawers feature a self-close action. The variant without a handle, on the other hand, features tip-on technology—enabling the drawers to be opened with a gentle tap. There’s also automatic interior lighting which turns on or off when you open or close the drawer. Another special furnishing element is the floor-standing chrome console with wooden shelves that can fit up to two round towel holders on the sides.

It gets better. For one, the matching mirrors from the White Tulip series are available in versions controlled by sensors or an app.

The light temperature featuring a memory effect can be synchronized with other lamps connected in the living area and controlled via the Casambi app. Want to dim the mirrors or switch the heating on and off? Your choice.

The free-standing bathtub, which comes with seamless acrylic paneling mirrors in the form of ceramics, is also exceptional. The oval version is available in two sizes: 1800 x 800 mm and 1600 x 900 mm for smaller rooms.

The best part of the collection is, of course, the first-ever faucet range Philippe Starck developed for Duravit. Its handle has the signature tulip element that goes well with the oozing sophistication of the washbasins and bathtubs.

With the White Tulip series’ intricate workmanship, as well as the cutting-edge technologies of HygieneFlush and HygieneGlaze, tip-on technology and self-close action, app-controlled mirror heating, and customizable lighting, among others, homeowners can now welcome elegance, ergonomics, and innovation—all at the same time—into their homes, no matter your interior style.
