From Manila to New York: Inside Blue Carreon's Fabulous New East Hampton Store
For those who follow lifestyle editor turned book author turned home accessories designer Blue Carreon, they know that there is no limit to what this creative and talented man can do.
From fashion writing and styling to interior decorating and landscaping—with a side of DIY home improvement projects (When’s the last time you built your own breakfast pavilion on a whim, by the way?)—it seems that there is nothing that Carreon is not capable of accomplishing when he sets his mind to it. At least when he is not playing tennis or riding his horse, Hero, that is.
This past week, Carreon has embarked on a new retail journey. After closing his eponymous shop in Makati last year to make way for his full-time move back to New York, he opened Blue Carreon Home in his new hometown of East Hampton.
“I’ve always wanted a store in the Hamptons. We started casually looking for a location around the same time we opened in Manila,” he shares. “We finally committed to
While the majority of the merchandise in the new store is from his home line—which many customers will recognize from what he already sells at Bergdorf Goodman—the shop hopes to extend the experience and provide a full view of the Blue Carreon Home Collection. Peppered with vintage finds and edits from all over the world, the global and sophisticated mix highlights vignettes that illustrate “how to live with beautiful objects and furniture” in a way that is unique to the designer.
Larger than his former Manila shop, the large size allowed him to run away with the concept of a lifestyle store. “We have two entrances and multiple exposures,” he narrates. “I have divided the store like a home: Customers enter a foyer-like set up that moves them into a drawing room and then culminates in a dining space. There are some elements from the Manila store, however, that I continued in this location like the chinoiserie wall and the salon-style hanging of art.”
While he hopes to showcase a lot of Philippine-made products that he thinks will resonate well with the Hamptons lifestyle, Carreon intentionally stayed away from creating a tropical beach aesthetic. “I didn’t want to go for a super beach look because there are so many of those stores already in the Hamptons.”
At the shop, he already carries beautiful shagreen and shell home accessories from Cebu, a wonderful selection of fans from Monchet Olives at Casa de Mercedes, hand-embroidered robes from Two Chic, and minaudières from Rafé Totengco.
In the shop’s first opening week, there was no shortage of renowned tastemakers and celebrity sightings. “Charlotte Moss and Margaret Russell have already dropped in. And so has Bobbi Brown. We look forward to more friends visiting as the summer rolls in.”
