For TV host, model, beauty columnist, and blogger Kelly Misa Fernandez, makeup should empower, not overpower, the wearer.

What challenges you?
Myself. I've always been my worst critic, and I use this to my advantage. Every time I get into something new I am doubly hard on myself. This might seem harsh but this teaches me to produce good work.

What dreams are you in the process of fulfilling?
Right now, I’ve put the focus on family. Having a baby has made me so happy and I just want to relish every moment. I want to be a good wife and mom, and I am willing to make sacrifices for this. In terms of work, I just want to be better at my craft. Be able to improve my hosting and writing skills and be the kind of person that would make my son proud.

Your most memorable beauty faux pas?
Overloading on shimmer, and applying it on all the wrong places. There was a time when I would apply shimmer everywhere, and I looked like I was oily or sweaty all the time.

Who are your favorite beauty icons?
Kate Moss. I've looked up to her since her supermodel days in the ’90s. I was painfully thin back in high school and was incredibly self-conscious. She made me want to become a model.

Best beauty advice you've ever received?
Never forget to moisturize. I grew up watching my mother and grandmother moisturize every night, which I think really works because my moms skin has remained taut and youthful to this day.

What first impression do you hope to make?
My personal look has always been clean and effortless. Less is more in my case, as anything natural works for me. When I pile on the makeup or wear something busy, it overpowers me. I’d like to be described as having a quiet elegance rather than being overtly stylish or trendy.
