Mercedez-Benz’s GLA class is staking its claim as one of, if not THE best, in the segment. The local distributor, Auto Nation Group, unveiled the latest version of the GLA in a digital launch last week.

Initially priced at P3.29 million, the all-new GLA is the German brand's entry level model into its portfolio of premium SUVs and purports to offer the “perfect synergy” between compact cars and SUVs.

Here are 6 things you need to know about the new GLA:

1| It’s higher than the last version

At 1,611 millimeters (1,616 with roof rails), the new GLA exceeds its predecessor by more than ten centimeters. 

2| It’s sporty inside and out

The GLA 200 comes in the upscale AMG Line, which means a sportier, more dynamic look. It comes with a diamond radiator grille with pins in chrome, 19-inch 5 twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, black roof liner, polished aluminium roof rails, and muscular shoulders. Meanwhile the multifunction sports steering wheel comes wrapped in Nappa leather.

3| There’s more space insidde

Offering plush, comfortable seats, the new GLA’s rear seat backrest comes with a 40:20:40 split, with each section folding down individually and providing more comfort to passengers. 

The luggage compartment, meanwhile, is adjustable through a continuous luggage compartment floor console, allowing for better, more efficient use of the available space. 

4| It offers MBUX: a new era of connectivity

The GLA is equipped with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience or MBUX multimedia system: seven-inch instrument and media display, intelligent voice assistant activated with the code word "Hey Mercedes,” and avaialbility of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto  

The vehicle also offers comprehensive touch operation concept, combining touchscreen and touchpad on the center console and touch control buttons on the steering wheel.

5| It has an impressive engine

The GLA 200 AMG Line comes with a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine with an output of 163 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. It comes paired with a 7G dual-clutch automatic transmission with cruise control and standard with front-wheel drive. Driving options via Dynamic Select includes “ECO,” “Comfort,” “Sport,” and “Individual.”

6| It has state-of-the-art safety features

Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive, which is avaialble in the new GLA, combines safety and convenience innovations such as Active Brake Assist (applying autonomous braking to avoid a collision or to reduce its severity in relevant situations), and Attention Assist (adjustable sensitivity helps warn the driver when typical signs of inattentiveness or drowsiness are detected).
