4 Cool Things to Know About the New BMW 4 Series Coupé
BMW Philippines has unveiled the all-new 4 Series Coupé. SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp., the official importer and distributor of BMW in the Philippines, says the new sporty coupé has the right proportions and features a model-specific chassis tuning for a richly engaging driving experience.
Here are four cool things you should know about the new BMW 4-Series Coupé:
1| It has a four-cylinder TwinPower turbo engine
For now, the new 4 Series Coupé is available locally in two variants: the 420i Model Advantage and the 420i M Sport. While there are more muscular variants for this model in other markets, the 420i’s dynamic yet efficient powertrain combination could appeal to BMW’s mainstream buyers with this engine choice—a 2.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder in gasoline paired with an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and Steptronic Sport in the M Sport variant. This engine is rated at 184 hp and 300 Nm of torque.
Don’t let the sub-200 hp figure fool you; in dynamic performance driving, having a good torque rating is key and 300 Nm should be more than enough.
2| It has a sexy profile
Its new large gaping kidney grille is somewhat of a controversy among car enthusiasts, but we’ll let our readers be the judge of that. What’s absolutely gorgeous about this car is its side profile, giving the car a commanding presence on the road.
The stylish silhouette and shape offers a fresh new take on BMW classics like the 3.0 CSi. This car’s athletic sculpture follows the brand’s coupé tradition, which stretch back almost 90 years. BMW seems to be on a roll when it comes to styling, from the new 7 Series and X5, the roundel brand is poised to lead another renaissance when it comes to offering elegant and dynamic cars, thanks to its new design language.
The 4 Series’ crisp lines and the use of clear, generously sized surfaces come together in its body design. With short overhangs, slender pillars, long doors with frameless windows, and a flowing roofline nicely ends in a heavily tapered in its rear section and is complemented by muscular shoulders to accentuate its powerful stature. The slim headlights of the all-new BMW 4 Series Coupé also blended well into the front wheel arches.
3| It has room for four
In front, the interior is typical of BMW’s current vehicle lineup but perhaps it appears a bit more Spartan than its pricier siblings. With a driver-focused cockpit, its cleanly designed and high-quality surfaces and elegant ambient lighting offers a very premium and insulated feel that makes this car really more of a grand tourer than a serious sports vehicle, but with enough juice and grip for a more spirited drive. The sport seats of the 420i Advantage are covered in Sensatec leather upholstery and has a newly designed Multifunction Sport Leather Steering Wheel, while its interior is lined with black high-gloss trim finishers.
The 420i M Sport has the Vernasca leather upholstery, M Sport Seats with lumbar support, Sensatec material for the instrument panel, and the headliner in BMW Individual Anthracite. Additionally, an M leather steering wheel and seatbelts, and Aluminum Tetragon interior finishers distinguishes this variant from the Advantage as finishing touches. At the back, two individual-style rear seats hug the rear passengers with integral head restraints and the rear backrest has a 40:20:40 split as standard, while its individual sections can be released and folded flat by pressing a button in the boot in case there’s a need to fit in extended length items at the rear. It also has a through-loading system that can facilitate longer items.
The car also has new connectivity options for seamless convenience. Its standard-fitted Live Cockpit Plus comprises the iDrive control/operation system with an 8.8- inch Control Display and a Touch Controller, a black panel instrument cluster centered around a 5.1-inch color display, multimedia and navigation systems, and two USB ports.
4| It's price tag starts at P4 million and comes in fun colors
The all-new BMW 420i Model Advantage is priced at P3.99 million and is available in the following colors: Black Sapphire, Mineral White, Bluestone Metallic, and the following optional colors: Jet Black, Arctic Race Blue, Alpine White, Sunset Orange, and Sanremo Green. The BMW 420i M Sport variant, meanwhile, is priced at P4.59 million and will be offered in Alpine White, Arctic Race Blue, Black Sapphire, and will have Mineral White, M Portimao Blue, and Sanremo Green as optional choices.
As with all new BMWs, the all-new BMW 4 Series Coupé comes with a 5-year or 200,000-kilometer manufacturer’s warranty, which is a new standard in the premium automotive segment in the Philippines.
