Just about five years since it was founded, the short-form video-sharing app TikTok is now the seventh most popular social media network in the world. According to Statista, Tiktok has about 732 million active users as of April 2021, behind Facebook (2.7 billion), YouTube (2.3 billion), WhatsApp (2 billion), Facebook Messenger (1.3 billion) Instagram (1.29 billion), and WeChat (1.22 billion).
Small wonder, then, that companies have been scrambling to establish a presence in TikTok in order to capture quite a sizeable audience. Automotive brands are no exception.
While the platform is best-known for dance videos and funny skits, users also post tons of car videos there. The question now is, when it comes to TikTok, which brands reign supreme?
Research from USwitch.com, a UK-based comparison and switching service has revealed a clear winner. Counting the number of views on videos using hashtags that mention each car brand and model as of March 2021, BMW dominates TikTok among all car brands with over 17.6 billion views.

“BMW as a brand has also been quick to embrace the platform, creating their own hashtag challenges to promote their vehicles,” Uswitch says.
In distant second place is fellow German brand Mercedes-Benz with 9.1 billion views. Like BMW, the Stuttgart-based company also does viral challenges on TikTok.
“Some of the vehicles which racked up the most views for the brand include the S-Class, G-Class and CLA-Class,” according to the study.
In third place is luxury Italian brand Lamborghini with 8.3 billion views.
According to Uswitch, Lamborghini was the first supercar brand to arrive on TikTok. The brand is frequently mentioned in popular songs on the platform, such as “Rockstar” by DaBaby and Roddy Ricch.

The rest of the Top 10 most popular vehicle brands on TikTok are Tesla (7.2 billion views), Audi (7 billion), Ford (6.5 billion), Honda (6.3 billion), motorcycle brand KTM (5.5 billion), Ferrari (4.9 billion), and Jeep (4.3 billion).

Uswitch also tallied the views for specific car brands and drew up a separate list. The Ford Mustang came out on top 3.9 billion views. Second place is a tie between the Nissan GT-R, which are often used in drifting videos, and the Toyota Supra, which was relaunched by the Japanese brand in 2019. Both amassed 2.8 billion views on TikTok.
Others in the Top 10 are the Chevrolet Camaro and the Land Rover Range Rover, which tied for fourth place with 1.5 billion views, the Honda Civic (1.3 billion), Lamborghini Huracan (916.7 million), Subaru WRX (851.6 million), Lamborghini Aventador (808.8 million), and the Tesla Model 3.
