Say 'Hey BMW' and Let the X3 Do the Talking
BMW Philippines has introduced its new third-generation X3 Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV), whose best-value variant comes in form of the X3 xDrive20d Business. Priced at P3.790 million, the refreshed model now comes with some enhancements on its exterior design, drivetrain, infotainment as well as advanced driver assistance system.
BMW redesigned the SAV’s front end and made some revisions on the rear section to give it a more aggressive off-road and sporty appearance. Other updates on the exterior include a new and larger BMW kidney grille, headlights, front and rear bumpers, exhaust trim, and rear lights.
It also has full LED headlights which is 10mm flatter than the previous set. Below these headlights there are vertical triangle-shaped air intakes that complement the front bumper.
The back comes with a set of redesigned full LED rear lights in 3D modelled pincer claw contours and an integrated horizontal turn signal bars in the center. It is also fitted with a set of 18-inch light alloy wheels in the V-spoke 618 design.
Inside, the new X3 has powered front sports seats with more pronounced side bolsters, giving the driver a reassuring feel of lateral support when the vehicle is driven hard. The seats are upholstered in easy-to-maintain Black Vernasca leather while the freestanding, 10.25-inch central touchscreen control display is accompanied by the BMW Live Cockpit Plus instrument control panel with a 5.1-inch color display.
Meanwhile, the AC control panel features a three-zone automatic air conditioning with integrated center vents. We love the tactile feel of the buttons and rocker switches for operating various automatic air conditioning functions, the control panel includes an LCD display as well as a button each for activating the hazard warning lights and for the driver assistance systems.
Say “Hey BMW”
BMW says its Live Cockpit Plus system is based on the intelligent networking and innovative digital services of BMW Operating System 7. Digital services include the BMW Intelligent Voice Control, Connected Music, and wireless smartphone integration with access to both Apple CarPlay or Android Auto for a seamless and safe user experience. The BMW Intelligent Voice Control is constantly being enhanced with additional capabilities, creating a more direct bond between driver and vehicle.
The digital companion is activated by voice control (e.g. “Hey BMW”) or at the touch of a button. Naturally spoken instructions can now be used to execute certain commands such as regulating the air conditioning, opening and closing the windows, or changing the driving experience switch modes. The system also recognizes whether it is being addressed by the driver or the front passenger and reacts accordingly—for example by adjusting the air conditioning on one side only.
Despite its aggressive driving dynamics, BMW made sure that it still has fuel efficiency in mind when designing the new BMW X3. It has a 2.0-liter in-line 4-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology with Multi-Stage TurboCharging, a low-pressure charger with variable inlet geometry, common-rail direct injection with solenoid valve injectors that delivers a maximum of 190 hp and 400 Nm of torque. This makes the X3 accelerate from zero to 100 kph in 7.9 seconds with a top speed of 213 kph. It balances performance with fuel efficiency thanks to its eight-speed Steptronic transmission specifically matched to the engine’s characteristics.
The X3’s BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system makes sure it is just as capable on-road as well as mild to moderate off-road situations. BMW’s precise electronic control system with its rear-wheel orientation ensures the vehicle is very capable in dynamic cornering, enhancing both driving stability and traction over rough terrain.
