Ford Is First Out of the Gate With The Launch of the New Everest Sport
Car launches are usually splashy affairs in fancy venues: lights, music, food, drinks, the works. On Thursday (May 21), Ford dispensed with all of that and unveiled a new variant in its Everest lineup with everybody’s favorite messenging tool these days—a Zoom call.
Ford Philippines managing director PK Umashankar led the affair which was low-key but well-attended. Almost 100 people—journalists, dealers, even bank representatives—attended the virtual event.
“I believe it’s already been said (elsewhere) that there would be a 20 to 40 percent industry-wide (downturn) because of the pandemic,” Umashankar said. “We understand these issues, which is why we’ve been careful about the price positioning of our new products and not charge at all for all the enhanced content (features).”
This new product, the Everest Sport, is the company’s latest step toward expanding its ever-growing SUV lineup.
Powered by a 2.0L Turbo Diesel Engine mated with a 10-speed Automatic Transmission with SelectShift, the new Everest Sport delivers 180PS of power and 420Nm of torque.
The interior features striking new accents, such as blue stitching around the steering wheel, dashboard, seats, center, console, and door trims . There’s also a standard leather seat with eight-way power driver seat function, smart keyless entry with push button start, and a hands-free power liftgate.
The new Everest Sport is has an eight-inch LCD Touchscreen, Sync3 with Apple Carplay and Android Auto Connectivity, two USB ports, and 10 speakers.
Meanwhile, the outside has a new mesh grille design, an embossed Everest hood badge at the front, gloss black painted wheels and exterior mirrors on the side, black tailgate applique in the rear and a ‘SPORT’ decal on the liftgate. Owners can look forward to other features such as LED projector headlamps, daytime running lights and 20-inch alloy wheels.
The new variant comes in Absolute Black, Aluminum Metallic, Arctic White, and Deep Crystal Blue, all of which is priced at P1.868 million.
