Honda's All-New City Starts at P838K
Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month and just this week, it announced the unveiling of its all-new fifth generation Honda City and new CRV models.

Last Thursday, Honda’s automobile business unit in the country officially unveiled the fifth generation all-new Honda City via a virtual event streamed on HCPI’s official Facebook and YouTube pages. It also introduced the new and facelifted CR-V model packed with new features.
Honda says that the all-new City comes with a stylishly new design, improved interior cabin and advanced technology, including its Earth Dreams Technology. Honda further added that this goes in line with its 2030 vision of leading the advancement of mobility and enabling people around the world to improve their daily lives. The City was one of the first models introduced by Honda in the country back in 1996. It has since become the brand’s bestselling model over the years, with over 131,000 units sold and counting.
The fifth generation City was developed under Honda’s grand concept of “Ambitious Sedan.” The new City’s sheet metal does sport a cutting-edge sleek design, with a thick long nose, lower height, and widened full width, the City is now longer by 111 mm, wider by 54 mm, and lowered by 10mm, compared to its predecessor.
SimpliCITY is key
The all-new City sports a new chrome front grille and bumper matching new LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and rear LED tail lamps in all variants. Its profile was inspired by a sharp Katana Blade in motion that gives the car a sleek and more commanding presence on the road. Its interior styling uses high-quality finishes with an interesting play of textures and thanks to a bigger chassis, features a spacious cabin with soft pads and polished surfaces, with accents to give it a more premium feel. The center console offers an ergonomic design that allows passengers to have their essentials within reach. Rear passengers also get to enjoy additional comfort through the expanded leg room and knee clearance.
New generation enhancements and features includes its new One Push Start System across all variants, specifically Smart Entry Keyless Entry System for 1.5 RS CVT and 1.5 V CVT, and Keyless Entry for 1.5 S CVT and 1.5 S MT variants. It is also now equipped with an 8-inch Advanced Touchscreen Display Audio with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and WebLink, that is now available in 1.5 RS CVT, 1.5 V CVT and 1.5 S CVT variants.
For the first time in the Philippines, Honda enthusiasts also look forward to the top-of-the-line and sporty City 1.5 RS CVT variant. The RS variant comes with a complete set of sporty upgrades including a high gloss black front grille with the distinctive RS badge and a newly designed sporty 16-inch Alloy Wheels. Inside, it sports a combination of leather and suede seat material with black and red stitching interior trims, new Sport Pedals, an 8-speaker system, and a multi-information display with red illumination that are only available for the 1.5 RS CVT variant. Aside from this, it is also now equipped with a new Remote Engine Start.
The City is powered by Honda’s new 1.5-Liter 4 Cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine, providing an ideal balance of performance and fuel efficiency. It is mated with Honda’s Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) and rated at 121ps with a maximum of 145 Nm of torque. A 6-Speed manual transmission option is also available for the 1.5 S MT variant.
What’s also new for the City is the use of spray polyurethane foam insulation at the bottom ends of the pillars. Honda has also added over thrice the amount of sound absorber material for the engine. The body thickness is also increased with added stiffeners to suppress vibration, giving it a more quiet and premium sedan feel.
Honda also announced a special introductory SRP from October 22, 2020 until December 31, 2020: All-New City 1.5 RS CVT - P1,048 million; All-New City 1.5 V CVT - P968,000; All-New City 1.5 S CVT P878,000; and All-New City 1.5 S MT P838,000
New CRV model
Aside from the all-new City, HCPI also introduces its new CR-V model with a redesigned exterior featuring a new front bumper, new chrome grille wing, and chrome bumper accents, with LED headlights and LED Fog lights. It also sports a newly designed set of 18-inch alloy wheels for the SX Diesel 9AT AWD, S Diesel 9AT, and 2.0S CVT variants.
Its S Diesel 9AT variant is now equipped with a Power Tailgate with the SX Diesel 9AT AWD variant on the other hand now features a new Hands-Free Access Power Tailgate. Other goodies such as the Panoramic Sunroof, Auto Rain Sensing Wipers and wireless mobile chargers are now also exclusively available to the SX Diesel 9AT AWD variant.
The new CR-V is available with two engine options: the 1.6-liter DOHC i-DTEC Turbo Diesel engine mated to a 9 Speed Automatic Transmission that is rate at 120PS and with a maximum torque of 300Nm. Its 2.0-liter SOHC i-VTEC engine mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which produces a maximum output of 154PS and peak torque of 189Nm that powers the lone 5-seater gasoline CR-V variant.
