Jaguar and Land Rover's EV and Hybrid Units are Here in the Philippines
All British Cars (ABC), the exclusive distributor of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles in the Philippines, has been teasing the public about the arrival of its all-electric Jaguar I-Pace model together with the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) for the last couple of weeks. It finally unveiled these last July 7.
Chris Ward, the company’s president, calls it Jaguar’s smartest five-seater sports car.
The Jaguar I-Pace
The sleek silhouette and stylish profile speaks volumes about the vehicle’s performance. It is a pure electric vehicle, so the I-Pace delivers power instantly. Unlike conventional internal combustion engines (ICEs) with gearboxes, only about 70 to 75 percent of the engine’s power reaches the wheels. For the I-Pace, it can deliver as much as 97 percent of electric power at the wheels, which produces 400 PS (about 394Hp) of power and 696 Nm of torque. It is capable of launching it from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 4.8 seconds.
Although we have not tested this car, it doesn’t take a lot to figure out that the I-Pace was designed to handle and perform very well. It is a giant cat leap in revolutionary design and new technology. Thanks to the positioning of its batteries placed very low in between its axles, it was able to achieve an almost perfect 50:50 front and rear weight distribution and has kept a low center of gravity, similar to the best handling sports cars. It is fitted with two powerful electric motors that gives power intelligently where it is needed among the four wheels to maintain maximum road grip. Due to the battery’s added weight, the body is a combination of both alloy and steel designed to give maximum strength and safety but also to give weight savings.
While the vehicle is parked, the I-Pace can be configured and set when it should begin charging prior to a planned departure time. It can prepare itself and pre-condition its battery for optimal performance. One of the main causes of high power usage is the power drain when using the vehicle’s A/C system. So, the I-Pace can be programmed to cool the cabin temperature while charging so there is less drain on the battery when it’s out on the road. Just like your smartphone of computer, the I-Pace can easily update its software online without need of visiting the Jaguar service center.
Each Jaguar I-Pace comes with a wall mount charger unit
Range anxiety? Chances are your bladder will give way faster than the battery of the I-Pace. Here’s why.
The energy of the I-Pace comes from its 90-kW lithium ion high-voltage battery with a range of 470 kilometers at full charge. To get a full charge from near zero takes 12 hours and 48 minutes using the bundled 7-kW charger, which makes it ideal for home charging. While driving it is also capable of regenerative braking which allows it to harness energy during deceleration, extending the vehicle’s traveling range.
The I-Pace comes with an eight-year, 160,000-kilometer, 70 percent health state warranty.
All British Cars is now accepting orders for the all-electric Jaguar I-PACE which comes at P7.59 million. Clients may also purchase an additional charger for their second homes or offices. A second charger costs P105,000 (installation not included).
Range Rover Plug-in Hybrid
During the unveil, Land Rover Philippines also announced the arrival of it Range Rover and Range Rover Sport Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHEV) in its current line-up. With a new plug-in electric motor, the PHEV Range Rover models comes with a combined power rating of 404 PS (about 400 Hp) and 640 Nm of torque. Its combined hybrid range is up to 700 kilometers and when run at pure electric power it has a range of about 50 kilometers. Plug-in charge only takes two hours and 45 minutes to get from near zero to full charge.
These Range Rover PHEV models are just as capable for off-road trips
The Range Rover PHEV models were unveiled as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Range Rover nameplate. These models represent the British luxury SUV brand’s steps towards electrification in the country. Last year, it unveiled its Range Rover Evoque mild-hybrid EV. Both the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport PHEV are equipped with a 2.0-litre Ingenium Turbocharged Petrol engine fitted with an 85kW electric motor. Together, the internal combustion engine and electric motor can propel these vehicles from zero to 100 km/h in 6.7 and 6.8 seconds respectively, both with a top speed of 220 km/h.
With the PHEV platform, the drivers can use two kinds of driving modes – parallel hybrid mode which is its default driving mode, that combines using both its petrol engine and electric motors to extend range and fuel economy. The EV mode allows the vehicle to run using its electric motor for a zero-emission journey using energy stored in its battery. Both PHEV models are also capable of regenerative braking; it can harness the energy during deceleration.
While the I-Pace can promise zero-emissions driving, thanks to the PHEV, these vehicles produce only 64g/km of CO2 emissions and can reach up to 2.8L/100km fuel economy based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).
Range Rover Sport PHEV
Just like the Jaguar I-Pace, these vehicles are covered with an eight-year, 160,000-kilometer, 70 percent health state warranty. They also come with a Type 2 Plug 7 kWh wall charger.
The Range Rover PHEV is available in Vogue standard wheelbase at P11.49 million and Autobiography long wheelbase at P15.19 million , while the Range Rover Sport is comes in at P9.49 million. Clients may also purchase an additional charger for their second homes or offices. A second charger costs P105,000 (installation not included).
