One of the most anticipated movies of the year is opening this week. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the sequel to the blockbuster and award-winning film about the adventures of Wakanda’s superhero and protector. The movie is doubly relevant because of the passing of the first film’s star, Chadwick Boseman in 2020, so audiences are curious about where the filmmakers are planning to take the story.
But one other thing audiences can look forward to is the appearance of another highly anticipated “character” in the film. Carmaker Lexus has announced that one of its vehicles—the RZ 450e—will be involved in a chase scene involving Wakanda’s all-women warriors the Dora Milaje.

The car is also featured in a series of spots called “An Electric Future” promoting the film and its collaboration with Lexus. The spot will run starting November 9.
The RZ 450e is the first globally available dedicated battery electric vehicle platform that offers high levels of stability and ride comfort. The battery is mounted under the vehicle floor for a low center of gravity and moment of inertia. It also features DIRECT4 all- wheel drive and precise steer-by-wire steering.

With a range of 220 miles, total system power is 312hp with an acceleration from zero to 60 to miles per hour in 5.2 seconds, the seamless on-demand application of power with its front and rear eAxle motors is instant and power is very linear.
“The power, elegance, and future-forward vision of the Lexus brand aligns perfectly with the Black Panther franchise,” says Mindy Hamilton, Senior Vice President of Global Partnership Marketing at The Walt Disney Company. “We couldn’t be happier to team-up with Lexus once again to bring an action- packed story and supporting 360 campaign to life.”

“We’re excited and honored to continue our collaboration with the Marvel Studios’ Black Panther franchise,” adds Michael Moore, Lexus International’s general manager for strategic communication. “Our all-electric RZ 450e is a perfect fit in the Dora Milaje’s cutting-edge arsenal, bringing an elevated driving experience that intuitively connects with its users through advanced technology and compelling performance.”

This wasn’t the first collaboration between Lexus and Black Panther. In the first movie that came out in 2018, Boseman, who played King T'Challa, chases the villains while sinking his claws on the roof of his Lexus LC-500 riding on top of the car on the streets in South Korea in spectacular car chase scene while it was being driven remotely by his sister Shuri. We actually saw the real car used in the scene, complete with claw marks, at the Petersen Automotive Museum together with Carlo Ablaza, VP for Lexus Brand Department of Toyota Motor Philippines while test-driving the all-new Lexus RX. We’ll have a story about the museum visit real soon.
