Have You Met the New Lexus NX Yet?
Lexus introduced the NX at the Beijing Auto Show in 2014 and it has since become a succesful model for the Japanese luxury brand worldwide. In the Philippines, auto geeks know about the crossover, but perhaps it’s time to introduce it to more people.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Lexus NX.
Lexus NX: capable crossover
The Lexus NX crossover was engineered and designed to please not only the most discerning driving enthusiasts but also those who are looking for a comfortable and practical vehicle.
The first thing you need to know about the Lexus NX is that it's available in three variants: the NX 300h hybrid (P3.678 million); NX 300 F Sport (P3.708 million); and NX 300 (P3.208 million).
Under the hood of the NX 300 and NX 300 F Sport is a powerful and fuel-efficient turbocharged direct-injection 2.0- liter inline-4 engine. Power is at 235hp with 350Nm of torque.
On the NX 300h hybrid, meanwhile, is a 2.5-liter inline-4 combined with a pair of electric motors. The NX 300h offers 194 bhp supplemented by electric motors that result in instant torque and acceleration.
Lexus says it has tuned the suspension to enhance ride and handling and tweaked the springs, stabilizer bars and bushings for improved turn-in response and steady-state cornering. It also has new shock absorbers that improves ride quality.
But the biggest change is that Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) is now available on the NX F Sport variant. AVS, which is based on the advanced system found in the LC 500, offers enhanced control and overall handling stability.
The Lexus NX features sculpted body lines and an eye-catching design. It has triple-projector headlamps similar to the LC, L-shaped DRLs and satin and smoked chrome trim pieces that adorn the grille.
At the rear, the lower rear bumper cover has elements of the grille’s spindle motif, and has been broadened to enhance the vehicle’s wide stance and low-center-of-gravity look. The NX’s revised taillights have also been elongated, and the black garnish has been revised to better emphasize the “L”-shaped lenses.
The F-Sport variant uses an F-mesh grille pattern, with the same jet-black finish seen in the Lexus RC F. The sporty and aggressive compact SUV silhouette is complemented by 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels in a dark premium metallic finish mounted with 225/60 R18 tires. Get the F-Sport package and you also get exclusive front and rear bumpers.
Premium features and technology
Inside the Lexus NX, driver and passenger is enveloped in luxury. The F-Sport and Hybrid variants feature a larger display on the center dashboard, from seven to 10.3-inches. Nearly all the controls and switches inside the NX, including the drive mode selector, shift knob and door handles, now have a metallic satin finish, enhancing the premium look and feel of the cabin.
Even the needlework of the NX 300’s leather surfaces is stitched perfectly straight, a fine example of Takumi craftsmanship.
On the center console, the remote touch interface pad has been enlarged and redesigned based on ergonomic design. The wireless charger tray is also bigger while the USB ports have been more optimally positioned in the center console, and improved so charging is faster.
Collision impact is greatly reduced with eight sensor-controlled SRS airbags lining the cabin, providing enhanced protection for all occupants. There are also wide-angle lights that provide additional illumination.
The Drive Mode Select also allows you to choose up to 5 different modes, namely Normal, Eco, Sport, Sport +, and Custom Mode, which lets users decide on the powertrain, Adaptive Variable Suspension, power steering, and air conditioning settings of the NX.
One nifty feature is a foot-operated rear hatch that can be used when the user's hands or arms are full, such as when carrying goods. Placing or kicking up one of your feet toward a sensor beneath the rear-bumper cover opens or closes the electrically-actuated rear hatch.
According to Lexus, the NX will resonate with drivers who are not only looking for a powerful and engaging crossover to drive, but who also want to see that time, effort, and passion was put into the construction of their vehicle of choice.
The Lexus NX is the product of decades of experience building SUVs condensed into one highly focused crossover.
