Mazda Philippines has welcomed 2022 by adding a new and sporty variant to its flagship model range. The CX-9 Black Edition is the midrange variant positioned in between the top-of-the-line CX-9 AWD Exclusive variant and the base CX-9 Touring variant. The tactical pricing of the CX-9 makes it an appealing choice for buyers looking for a premium seven-seater SUV crossover.

What’s new for the 2022 CX-9

Mazda added new features across the three variants of the CX-9 range. Inside, it has a new 9.2-inch infotainment display that comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a wireless charger pad for your mobile phone’s battery located below the monitor screen.

For better handling and overall driving experience, paddle shifters are now standard, and all variants are equipped with Mazda’s G-Vectoring Plus system. This system improves the vehicle’s stability and increases its traction resulting in a more precise drive, less G-force when cornering, and increased overall comfort in the driving experience. Mazda also added an auto hold function to complement the electronic parking brake.

The topline CX-9 AWD Exclusive comes with Mazda’s i-Activ All-Wheel Drive system and is now enhanced with an off-road traction assist, offering better on and off-road road safety, superior handling and traction. Subtle differences that identify this variant is its 20-inch Bright Silver alloy wheels as well as a new Gray Metallic front grille design and larger tailpipe finishers. Inside, all three rows are wrapped with Oriental Brown Nappa Leather, while its driver and front passenger seats are ventilated for improved comfort. All seats come with a stitched diamond pattern quilted leather and a 12-speaker Bose Premium sound system.

Another variant-specific addition is a full set of Mazda’s i-Activsense Safety Technologies, which includes Radar Cruise Control that automatically maintains the vehicle’s distance to the car it is following when activated. Mazda says that it also comes with Smart City Brake Support for the front and rear to reduce the probability of collision with oncoming vehicles while maneuvering in and out of parking spaces.

For the CX-9 Black Edition, the grille is distinguished with a Piano Black finish and comes with 20-inch Black Alloy wheels. Inside, there are with Burgundy leather seats and red stitching on the leather steering wheel. It also has seat ventilation with the eight-way driver and six-way passenger power front seat controls. Just like the AWD Exclusive, it also has the 12-speaker BOSE Premium Sound System. It is likewise equipped with i-Activsense Safety Technologies with some features like the Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Both the Black Edition and the base CX-9 Touring variant is front wheel drive, with the latter distinguished by its 18-inch Gray Metallic alloy wheels and black leather seats.

All variants of the 2022 Mazda CX-9 lineup are powered by its Skyactiv-G 2.5L Dynamic Turbo engine that is rated at 228hp and 420Nm of torque and is mated to a quick-shifting, six-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission that promises a balance of performance and fuel efficiency.

All of Mazda’s vehicles, including the Mazda CX-9 models, come with a 5-Year Free Service Plan which covers the expenses of periodic maintenance at either six months or 10,000-kilometer intervals, for up to five years or 100,000 kilometers, whichever comes first. It also has a 3-Year Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty.
