Interbrand has released its annual ‘Best Global Brand Rankings’ for 2018, and it’s once again bound to get people talking. This year, 15 car manufacturers made the cut, as well as one motorcycle company.

Before we break down this year’s list, let’s talk about how it was compiled to begin with. The entries were chosen by Interbrand based on market, brand, competitors, and financial data. These factors were assessed, “areas for growth identified, and the financial impact of investing in the brand quantified.”

For a brand to qualify for the study, at least 30% of its revenue must come from outside its home market. It must also have a significant presence in Asia, Europe, and North America, and there must be sufficient publicly available data on the brand’s financial performance. Lastly, it must show long-term economic profitability, and it must possess awareness across the major economies of the world.
