Check Out the Latest Version of the Philippines' Bestselling Car
The country’s bestselling car is finally getting an upgrade and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Toyota unveiled its refreshed Vios 2020 druing a virtual launch on Saturday, July 25. With over 320,000 units sold across three generations since it was introduced in the country in 2003, the Vios is the biggest-selling car in the country for 14 out of the last 17 years.
The theme of the launch was “level-up,” which refers to the significant improvements in the newest generation of Toyota’s subcompact sedan. The changes start in the exterior, with a new black front grille and three-tier LED headlights and daytime running lights for G variants. The G, E and XLE variants also get LED foglamps, while G variants have 16-inch alloy wheels and LED rear combination lamps with line guide. Safe to say this Vios is a far cry from its ancestors.
The new Vios now features smart, keyless entry, a start/stop button (for the G variants), and seven-inch display screen, all of which were once reserved for luxury cars.
All variants come with SRS airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution + Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control and Hill-Start Assist Control. Back camera (to help during parking into tight spots) is also available in the G variants.
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) execs said the Vios cornered about 38.6 percent of the market in 2019. The company says it expects 23,000 units in sales for the year, with 14,000 of this for the new model.
TMP admits they lost sales because of the COVID-19 crisis, but says it is seeing sales starting to pick up again.
The base price of the MT 2020 Vios is at P671,000, with the G CVT variant at P1.056 and P1.071 million depending on the color.
