Cavite-Laguna Expressway Is Shaping Up, Will Cut Travel Time to Manila Down to 45 Mins
Construction on the Cavite-Laguna Expressway, or CALAX, is underway despite quarantine restrictions and rainy weather, the Department of Public Works and Highways said Friday.
The 45-kilometer toll road runs from Kawit to Mamplasan, traversing Kawit, Imus, Damariñas, General Trias, Silang, Santa Rosa, and Biñan.
It's made up of two segments: the 18-kilometer Laguna segment and the 27-kilometer Cavite segment. Right of way acquisition is 60% complete while civil works is 40% finished.
Once completed, the expressway will decongest Governor's Drive, Aguinaldo Highway, and Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road. It also aims to connect the Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) to the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).
Public Works Sec. Mark Villar said he was confident that by 2022, Cavite and Laguna would only be 45 minutes away from Metro Manila, as compared to the usual two-hour drive.
