One of the most breathtaking roads in the Philippines is almost complete. Daang Katutubo cuts a path through the rolling hills of Pangasinan to connect the lands of ethnic groups Kankanaey, Bago, and Ibaloi in Barangay Mapita.

“This road improvement will give a boost to the growth of tourism, provide economic opportunities, and will allow the indigenous people to have better access to basic social services available in more urbanized areas,” said DPWH secretary Mark Villar in a statement.

According to Villar, Daang Katutubo is meant to improve access of indigenous communities to social services.

Daang Katutubo is 64 percent complete.

The DPWH released photos of Daang Katutubo on February 7 showing the progress of the project. Once completed, travel time from the town proper of Aguilar, Pangasinan to the ethnic communities will be reduced from one hour to just 30 minutes.
