SLEX Has Entered Extra-Difficult Mode With the Start of the New Traffic Scheme

With the construction of the Skyway Extension along South Luzon Expressway in full swing—and a new traffic scheme in place—it seems the "former highway" has just entered an entirely different level of congestion. Both "SLEX" and "Alabang" trended on Twitter today, February 18, with people feeling all kinds of emotions (mainly negative ones, really).

It all began on February 16, when several lane closures were implemented, and most folks had to reroute to make way for construction. These adjustments will be in place until March 30.  Well, we've barely made it to day three of the more-than-a-month-long period and it looks like people have already had enough. The project, which will extend the Skyway to the Susana Heights area, has a deadline set for December 2020—yup, this year.

“We understand that this is an inconvenience for many of our motorists, and we’d like to again ask for your patience and support," noted San Miguel Corporation President Ramon Ang in a recent statement. "We all know that we have a big task at hand here, and that is to build a long-term solution to the traffic situation in the south."
