What Really is the Best Zodiac Sign and Why is it Capricorn?

Around this time in 2025, local Facebook meme account FTTM conducted a survey of the best astrological sign. Specifically, the page asked followers to identify which sign displayed the most traits that were considered “green flags,” or behaviors and characteristics that are considered positive, healthy, and encouraging.

In the totally random, completely unscientific survey, Capricorn came out on top. The zodiac sign of people born between December 22 to January 19 won the title again, having previously named “champion” in a similar survey a year before.

It’s complete nonsense, of course. There’s no credible way to determine the supremacy of any zodiac sign over all the others (not to mention the fact that astrology, itself, is not considered real and doesn’t have any scientific validity, but that’s another story).But, you’d be interested to know that, based on estimates, the global psychic services industry is valued at around $1.2 billion in 2025, with projections of strong growth (10 to 12 percent CAGR or compound annual growth rate) due to smartphones and the internet over the next three to five years. Clearly there’s a market for those looking at the stars for their fortunes in life and love.

It's also noteworthy that judgment from a sizable collective (tens of thousands of FTTM’s Facebook’s followers took part in the survey) indicated that Capricorn are generally thought to be upstanding, morally upright citizens. At least, moreso than any of the other signs.

What qualities do Capricorns possess anyway? Many astrological “experts” pretty much use the same words to describe them: hardworking, levelheaded, ambitious, and practical. The sign is ruled by Saturn, which is the planet of discipline, structure, and long-term thinking. According to astrologers cited by outlets like Astrology.com and The Cut, Saturn energy is about delayed gratification and mastery earned the hard way.

Also, Capricorns are famously “old souls,” or people comfortable with responsibility and mildly suspicious of shortcuts. While other signs are busy manifesting or spiraling, Capricorn is quietly making a five-year plan and doing whatever it takes to get to their goal.

If you need proof, consider the big names born under the sign. In business, there’s Conrad Hilton, founder of the hotel chain that bears his name; Howard Schultz, the former CEO of Starbucks; and Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and one of the richest people alive today. In politics and history, you have civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; Benjamin Franklin, who was one of the founding fathers of the USA; scientist Sir Isaac Newton; and French heroine Joan of Arc. And in entertainment, sports, and arts and culture, there’s Dolly Parton, Muhammad Ali, Denzel Washington, JRR Tolkien, Edgar Allan Poe, Marlene Dietrich, LeBron James, and Timothee Chalamet, among many, many others.  

So what is it that separates Capricorns from other “successful” signs? For the people who study this sort of thing, it’s not just ambition but stamina. Capricorns aren’t meteors that burn bright and disappear. They endure. As astrologer Susan Miller has pointed out in multiple profiles, Capricorn success often peaks later in life, once experience catches up with effort.

Capricorns are also apparently misunderstood in social situations. When people hear that someone is the goat sign, they’re assumed to be humorless. But Capricorn humor is often dry and deadpan, often requiring smarts and wit to get the joke.

One other thing about Capricorns: they’re loyal to the point of inconvenience. They remember birthdays, show up on time, and mean what they say. They may not text you back immediately, but when your life falls apart, you can bet they’ll be there to help prop you back up.

Believers will insist that every sign has their own inherent qualities that supposedly sets them apart from everyone else. Of course, the skeptics will sneer and roll their eyes at the assumption that planetary alignment and cosmic interference have anything to do with an individual’s personality and character. But whichever way you lean, there’s no denying that there’s a fair bit of people out there who genuinely believe that, in a ranking of zodiac signs based solely on perceived virtues, one sign has everybody else beat.
