Who would have thought being the son of comedy cinema royalty translates into a completely natural feel for ivory twinkling and a pristine penchant for falsettos?

Magnus Ferrell, 22, is the son of one of the funniest people and Ron Burgundy himself Will Ferell. We don't really know how funny the singer is in his spare time, but he sure has something special with his silky single "Asleep Talking" that's been making the rounds online and even got Michelle Obama swooning.

Think understated funk stylings, tight drum production, and warbly rhythm guitars accompanying the younger Ferrell's infectious vocal melodies.

The flow in which the "asleep talking" theme fits in the pre-chorus is just so satisfying rhythmically and thematically. He also possesses a vibrato that oscillates in a very classically trained R&B aesthetic. This latest cut is quite a departure from his earlier stuff, such as "Waste Your Heart," which leans more into pop funk, a lot like what Dua Lipa was doing in "Levitating."

Ferrell is squeezing his way in among this new breed of artists harnessing nostalgia and sonic aesthetics from music's most transformative zeitgeists through modern production sensibilities. Let's just hope he doesn't peak early with this one banger,
