Put Your Tax Evasion Skills to The Test, Win a Taxumo Discount

You can now live out your fantasies (or even realities for some) of weaving past your tax responsibilities via a zany April Fools' game that will actually result in a 30 percent discount for a subscription to local online tax compliance platform Taxumo.

Tax Flier, a Flappy Bird-like browser game that went live today, April 1, will see you directing your character Carlo zip past walls of receipts and tax paperwork, all against a deadline he's bound to miss. You can try it out at the platform's website here. Ultimately you have to help him evade all these before the Bureau of Internal Revenue gains on him for tax evasion.

The quirky game, ironically made by a compliance platform, is geared toward freelancers, self-employed professionals, and small business owners who dread the head-scratching process of filing their returns each year. Tax Flier allows you to keep losing to grab that discount by making sure Carlo is on track to dodge his tax debts (which we nor Taxumo encourage you to actually do). According to the platform, digital annual income tax filings through its services since 2020 have seen an uptick of 49 percent on average, with a lot of these being first-time or previously informal earners.

In its State of Online Taxation report last year, Taxumo said that the massive 1.5 million-strong Filipino digital workforce contributed to the P2.25-trillion digital economy, which is about 8.5 percent of the Philippines' gross domestic product in 2024. It said that e-commerce alone contributed about P302 billion to the digital economy.
